Microsoft booth at NXTcomm 08 What a difference a day makes! Tuesday June 17 the NXTcomm showfloor opened with an estimated crowd of 35-40,000 attendees working the floor and attending conference sessions. One of my more interesting visits of the day was an extended discussion with the folks from Redmond, who are cutting a high profile at this mostly telecom show.
NXTcomm show floor June 17 2008 Microsoft struck back at Google Apps, GoToMeeting, WebEx, DimDim, Acrobat.com, and other burgeoning SaaS "pay as you go" Office applications in announcing "general availability" of Microsoft-hosted versions of their Office
Communications Server (OCS) suite of unified communications (UC)
server-side apps, including Office Live Meeting (both server software,
and hosted by Microsoft); Sharepoint 2007; Active Directory and related
"presence management" capabilities, and related server-side
applications which should interest MS Exchange Server and SQL users.
Collectively, Microsoft is calling this hosted offering of OCS/UC tools
"Hosted Messaging and Collaboration".
Microsoft OCS Roadmap Details from Microsoft here
. I plan to be in their booth today and tomorrow spending more time
learning about Microsoft's new server-side communications applications,
as well as all the details surrounding their latest version (6.1) of
Windows Mobile. I will update this blog post with more detailed
information on these two topics within 24-48 hours.
